Consumer's wife was using microwave oven when noticed a spark coming out of the side of the control panel. Consumer turned the unit off & turned it back on & unit caught on fire. The unit had flames inside. Consumer turned unit off via automatic shut off.
Consumer reports that the microwave exploded in flames and produced a loud noise while it was in use and while that was water boiling underneath. Consumer states that sparks and flames from the unit shot out at her while she was using the electric stove underneath.
Consumer reports that while reheating a small piece of pie placed on a paper plate in the microwave oven for 20 seconds only there was arcing and then smoking. The food appeared to be burning. Consumer says she had noticed arcing before, but this was the worst.
The builder installed a new microwave in the cabinet & had turned on the breaker panel to power the appliance. A few minutes later he noticed a smoke condition in the house & the smoke detectors began to go off. The builder states that the microwave turned on by itself.
44YOM started smelling smoke, when he was baking a potato in the microwave. The entire house was full of smoke. Microwave was on fire from the inside. It was charred. According to technician, who inspected it, the cooking sensor was the problem.
Microwave oven stopped functioning. The technician who repaired it said the door switch had melted from the heat.
Consumer reported that Microwave Oven door will not seal. Door hinge reinforcement has five weld that hold it in place all 5 welds are broken & have pulled through case during normal household use.
While using his built-in microwave oven consumer noticed smoke emitting from cabinets & burning odor. Unit was turned off. Next day he discovered that unit had burnt holes in his cabinet where it was located.
Glass door shattered on consumer's over-the-range microwave when unit was off. She was cooking on electric range stove top & was baking turkey in oven. She feels that that collective heat could have contributed to the incident.
The consumer report that the microwave door hinges have come off the frame & do not hold the door closed properly. An authorized service man informed that the problem could not be fixed because the hinges were welded to the frame & the weld failed.
While microwave was in use, smoke came pouring from top of it. Appliance lost power. First similar incident happened 3 weeks after purchase of microwave & unit was replaced by retailer & then incident occurred again & failed part was replaced.
Smoke came out of microwave oven when 61 YOM was heating a cup of coffee. There was a lot of smoke & it seemed to have come from the motor.
Consumer reports that the over-the-range microwave oven started on its own.

Consumer noticed light flickering in microwave, opened it & saw flame, approximately 6 inches in length, coming from magnetron area. He doused flame, opened unit's door & left it open. He then put ceramic coffee cup in microwave & magnetron area turned glowing red.
Consumer reports that he put some meat into the over-the-range microwave oven and when he pressed start, he received an electric shock to his right hand knocking him down to the floor.
Consumer reports that while cooking popcorn in the microwave oven, that is part of the built-in electric oven, it began crackling and popping, then fire was seen inside of the unit at the wave directer area and with some smoke. Found the cardboard wave director was charred.
Consumer wife placed potato inside microwave on 'bake potato' setting. Sensor malfuntioned & didn't stop unit. She went back to kitchen & it was filled with smoke & unit was still on. She turned it off from button on control panel. Inside shield melted. Smoke alarm went off.
Consumer reports that the door hangs down when opening the microwave door. The top and bottom hinges where the microwave door attaches to the microwave cabinet are broken or loose. The consumer is now unable to use the microwave.
61 YOF was heating water to make tea when billows of smoke came out of top of microwave oven filling her home with smoke. She reports that unit wasn't dirty & there was no excess food on oven walls. Also, poduct in oven didn't catch fire, microwave oven itself was on fire.
consumer stated that she was in the kitchen when the microwave oven came on by itself. The consumer stated that the microwave oven works fine other than coming on by itself periodically.
While using microwave for approximately ten minutes, consumer heard explosion & he noticed there was smoke billowing from unit. He unplugged it. It had electrical fire, which caused control pane to cease operating & electrical wired to melt. Incident left burnt odor in room.
A male consumer reported that the microwave oven sometimes starts on its own, it has done this more than once.
A 48 YOF reports that the microwave caught on fire inside, when her friend was microwaving 2 sausages on a paper towel. The consumer stated that they had to junk the microwave because it is dangerous.
Microwave came on by itself. 50 YOM & spouse were home and were able to unplug the unit.
Consumer stated that on several different occasions in past two years microwave wouldn't turn off for second or two. In past two months microwave would continue to run until somebody opens door & shut it. Also plastic around its handle cracked & handle completely broke off.
Consumer stated that microwave suddenly switched on without anyone near it & nothing inside. Unit's display indicated it was counting down from 4 minutes. Consumer hit Stop, opened door & unplugged unit. This unit was replacement for original microwave that stopped beeping.
Consumer's microwave goes on byitself several times during the night and sometimes during the day.
A 65 YOF was baking a potato in a Microwave and it caught on fire.
Fire Marshal's Office reported residential structure fire. Area of origin determined to be within a microwave oven. 57 YOF was involved in incident, no injury was reported.
Consumer reported that microwave oven turned itself on & ran for hours, getting very hot in process. Consumer stated that unit was only used three times prior to incident. Consumer found from manufacturer that it was made with defective control panel.
The consumer stated that at times when his microwave oven is off and the door closed, it runs and cannot be shut off unless unplugged for a few hours to a few weeks then runs normal again.On one occasion while not being used the ex fan turned on by itself.
31 YOF was heating up baby food in the microwave and noticed that the microwave had been running for longer than the 10 second set. She removed the hot food and it exploded on her. She suffered burns to her face and wrist. She states the unit can turn itself on sometimes.
The consumer stated that the microwave oven on the recreational vehicle (RV) has come on twice by itself. The consumer says being a fire investigator he has data of another microwave oven of the exact same model catching fire and damaging a structure due to the same defect.
85 YOF was sleeping when fire alarm at retirement community went off. Fan motor shorted out in microwave & started fire. Small fire extinguisher was used, but fire came back & smoke filled room. Larger fire extinguisher was used to put out flames. 85 YOF was seen by doctor.
Microwave came on by itself. Consumer turned it off. About 2 hours later, unit came back on again. Technician came out & part was replaced. Consumer smelled burning wires. She unplugged unit. She tried to use it after that, but microwave did not work.
When 68 YOF opens microwave door, lights turn on, turntable rotates, & magnetron comes on. Failure mode can cause harm to anyone near microwave.
The microwave oven is running with the door open, after unplugged for several minutes and plugged back in. The unit runs if stop button pushed. The glass tray rotates, fan is heard and can only be stopped when door is closed or unplugged .
A 34 YOM Consumer was starting to use the microwave. While setting the minutes on the microwave the panel surrounding the keypad and clock fell and scratched his right hand. Consumer received first aid.
Consumer reports that the microwave turned on by itself and started an electrical fire. Consumer noticed a burning smell. Consumer opened the door and the fire was burning inside. The plastic rotation device melted. The fire later burned out.
Microwave oven randomly turned itself on & off throughout the day. The timer showed "0:00" & light did not turn on. The only way to know that oven turned itself on was the sound of the fan. The glass plate had large circular crack with black burn marks around it. No injuries.
Consumer reports that the over the counter microwave caught on fire when not in use. No food or other objects were in the unit at the time. It had last been used about 1/2 an hour before the fire. There was a burning plastic and electrical smell. Unit was taken outside.
Microwave oven started operating without any buttons being pressed. In the past, we've seen situations where this microwave would not turn off after the timer had ended. The only way to turn the microwave off was to unplug it.
Consumer noticed that whenever he would turn the microwave to 30 seconds to warm something it would automatically go to 4 minutes. The most recent incident was when he was warming a cup of coffee & time changed to 4 minutes. He is reporting this as a burn & scald hazard.
57 YOM consumer's over-the-range microwave starts when the door is opened even when there is no time left. Not only does the open door, cutoff feature not work; the oven turns itself on when you open the door. Consumer implies this is a safety hazard.
While popcorn was put into microwave to pop, flames were noticed coming out of side panel of inside cooking chamber. Microwave was unplugged. Inside of cooking chamber was scorched & melted near control panel. 60 YOF was involved in incident.
55 YOF opened door to get food after microwave stopped & beeped & unit started running again with open door. She shut door & microwave stopped running. Husband tried it with same result. She had to unplug it in order to get food out of microwave.
Consumer reports that the circuit breaker trips of the door of the microwave is opened while it is running at home. The door is misaligned and difficult to open. It recently started to trip the circuit breaker.
The microwave oven was being used to reheat (warm up) a cup of coffee for less than 20 seconds when the plastic shelf holder sparked and then flamed. When the consumer opened the microwave's door there was smoke and melted plastic smell and the plastic shelf holder was melted
A house fire was caused by a microwave. The microwave was not in use at the time. The unit caught fire in the upper part of the oven where the exhaust fan was located. The fan was not working due to a defective control panel. 59 YOM suffered an unspecified injury.

Consumer's over the range microwave stopped working, but light was still functioning. Control board was replaced and tech found the plug and electrical outlet melted together. Circuit breaker was not tripped.
The consumer stated that their microwave oven trips the circuit breaker when someone accidentally pulls the door while the oven is still on. The manufacturer told the consumer that this is normal but the consumer says this never happened with any other microwave they've used.
31 YOF reported that 31 YOM pulled on microwave door handle & bottom of plastic handle cracked & broke off into one large piece & many small shards. Small plastic shards landed into dinner that was being prepared on stovetop & in kitchen. He was injured, got no 1st aid.
The consumer stated that the plastic piece that holds the metal rack up in microwave oven was sparking and lit on fire and melted while microwaving chicken nuggets for 90 seconds.
Consumer reports that the microwave almost caught on fire at the breaker box. The microwave has a dedicated circuit. Consumer consider the unit to be unsafe.
Consumer reports that while the microwave was in use it caught on fire. The plastic spinner inside the microwave melted and part of the glass spinner shattered as well from the extreme heat.
Consumer reports that the microwave was in use when it caught the food inside on fire. Consumer's brother-in-law smelled smoke and stopped the unit. The house was filled with smoke.
The consumer, 45, stated that normal usage of the microwave door handle caused lacerations on fingers. She stated that the stainless steel is continually peeling, leaving shards on the handle seam and, despite efforts to minimize peeling, there is a constant risk of being cut
My wife had loaded a bag of popcorn in the microwave, and after a few seconds, sparks started flying inside, and small yet violent fire started raging inside the microwave. Thank goodness we were standing right there, and we were able to put the fire out.
The Consumer, 29, stated that the bottom metal panel (below the buttons) on the microwave oven came unattached leaving a sharp piece of metal sticking out from the unit that she cut her hand on twice. They tried gluing it back but it wouldn't stay.

The Consumer reported that the microwave oven cracked at several places on the hinged corner.
As 34 YOM opened door of microwave, he badly cut fingers d/t stainless steel sheet on handle separated from plastic base around edges. It is razor sharp & made several deep cuts into fingers, he got 1st aid. He reported 32 YOF that was also injured & got 1st aid.
While microwave is operating & someone opens its door, something shorts out & trips 20 amp breaker on dedicated circuit. This occurred for months. 60 YO consumer stated, that finally it got to point, where it would trip breaker immediately, when attempting to start unit.
56 YOM consumer reports that the microwave is malfunctioning after a year of light use. The timer on the unit is slow and inaccurate. When set for a specific time it takes several seconds longer for each second set. This has caused food to catch on fire. Fire hazard. Unsafe.
Consumer's microwave started to trip breaker and worked fine after reset. Then the microwave started to run after reset. Display showed it has just been powered on. Light and turntable were off. Consumer states this is a big hazard and dangerous use.
Male consumer reports that after the microwave was installed he tested it by putting a cup of water in the unit. The door blew open and sprayed scalding hot water on him and his wife who was nearby. This product is unsafe and a scald hazard.
