The vacuum's battery can expand and burst, posing a risk of injury to the user and bystanders. Name of product: Ergorapido, Pronto and Precision Vacuums.

Top-Corded Vacuum Cleaners Recalled by Electrolux

  • Date: 11/10/1998

The power cords on these vacuums extend out of the very top of the handle, and the cord is often used as an extension of the handle. The power cord can break inside the handle or the casing around the cord can break, and cause shocks or burns to the user's hand. Even when there is no apparent breaking of the casing around the cord, these vacuums can still cause injuries. The Ponytail vacuums were sold under the following names: Genesis Prolux S/R, Genesis LX Prolux, Warehouse Genesis LXE, Regency Prolux Special Edition, Prolux Plus.

45 YOF reports that the electrical connection on the hose assembly of the canister vacuum cleaner burned and melted during use, burning her hand. The incident also occured years earlier further down the hose at the connection point. Fire hazard.

While cleaning hand held portion of cordless vacuum, it turned itself on. When it would not shut off, 65 YOF set it on counter to let battery run itself out. Short time later she smelled burning plastic. It burned spot through paper towel & in counter top.

Consumer reports that in less than 10 minutes of starting to use the upright vacuum cleaner, the area behind and below the power switch became extremely hot causing the plastic to melt/smoke. It is stated that the cord also became hot. The plastic got hot enough to burn skin.

58 YOF consumer reports that the cord to the vacuum cleaner does not rewind as it should. It pulls tight and yanks the cord out of the outlet or pulls the vacuum. The button is getting caught under the frame and prevents it from rewinding. This is unsafe.
