Consumer reports that the plug of the window air conditioner ignited and burned while it was plugged into the wall outlet, resulting in damage to the wall, floor, and window coverings. Power cord was attached to a ground fault interrupter.

The consumer stated that the air conditioning unit was on and had been running for about six hours. He heard an explosion. When he checked, he found the entire air conditioning unit had blown up. The unit had to be cut out of the drywall.
