Consumer reports that the plug of the window air conditioner ignited and burned while it was plugged into the wall outlet, resulting in damage to the wall, floor, and window coverings. Power cord was attached to a ground fault interrupter.

Few weeks ago consumer noticed mildew-y smell upon turning window air conditioning unit on & found that interior of unit is coated in spots of mold. She her husband & son had fever & respiratory illness which seems to have cleared up upon discontinuing use of unit.

Air conditioner abruptly stopped, & billows of black smoke came pouring out of vents. 23 YOM went to unplug it & saw fire. Fire department responded and extinguished fire. 50 YOF was injured and received first aid by non-medical professional.

The consumer, 50, stated that the internal side of the air conditioner made of thermal insulation foam is permanently accumulating mold which is impossible to remove and mold particle are blown to the air. She stated her family of 3 kids and 2 adults are experiencing symptoms

46 YOF & 56 YOM discovered black mold inside air conditioner unit, when male consumer turned it on by hand instead by remote. He smelled strong musty odor & looked at vents which were covered with mold. Inside was also moldy. Consumers suffered mold-related health issues.

The consumer stated that the air conditioning unit was on and had been running for about six hours. He heard an explosion. When he checked, he found the entire air conditioning unit had blown up. The unit had to be cut out of the drywall.

consumer noticed a smell of burning wires. They turned off the A/C unit but was not turning off, and smell was getting stronger. consumer unplugged the unit. unit had smoke coming from the controller board and charred.
