Consumer reports that while using the electric blender, the blade mechanism became loose followed by a smell of smoke. On removing the blade mechanism, it was found that the turning rod at the base of the unit was stripped by the loose mechanism rendering the unit useless.

We started hearing noises in the blender but did not know what it was. We noticed a metal taste in our smoothies and then the whole blade unit came apart in pieces. My husband almost got cut collecting the pieces not knowing there was two loose blades.
