Maytag Recalls Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard

Name of product: Maytag and JennAir brand dishwashers. Liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard. The recall involves Maytag and JennAir under counter or portable plastic tub dishwashers. The dishwashers have black, white, almond, bisque and stainless steel front panels.

BSH Home Appliances Expands Recall of Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard

This recall expansion involves Bosch, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air and Thermador brand dishwashers sold in stainless steel, black, white and custom panel. The model and serial numbers are printed inside the dishwasher either on the top of the dishwasher inner door panel or on the side of the dishwasher panel.

Consumer reports there was a melting plastic smell coming from the dishwasher. The door was difficult to open. The heating element of the dishwasher stayed on and had melted the rinser spinner attached to the motor. Consumer considers the unit unsafe.

JennAir JDB1090AWB

  • Date: 5/17/2014

59 YOM reports that the dishwasher overheated twice. The heat melted parts inside the dishwasher, as well as plastic utensils. The dishwasher continued to head even though the cycle was over and the door had been opened for several minutes.

JennAir JDB1250AWB

  • Date: 9/2/2014

A 33-YOF stated that the dishwasher heating element failed, it continued to heat without the dishwasher being on. She came home to an electric burning smell. She opened the dishwasher and smoke came out, A few items were melted. She burned her right hand on counter top.
