Whirlpool Corporation Announce Recall of Dishwashers
Name of product: Whirlpool and Kenmore brand dishwashers. An electrical defect within the dishwashers' wash motor wiring poses a risk of the motor overheating and possibly catching fire. The recalled products are Whirlpool brand and Kenmore brand (made by Whirlpool Corporation) under-the-counter, plastic tall tub dishwashers. The dishwashers come with black, white, biscuit, or stainless front panels.
Dishwasher Recalled by Whirlpool
Voluntary recall of approximately 500,000 Whirlpool and Kenmore brand dishwashers. Wiring in the door latch may overheat and catch fire. Whirlpool has received 20 claims of property damage. The dishwashers sold nationwide from June, 1991 through October, 1992 for $350 to $475. About half of the dishwashers were sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co. Affected Whirlpool brand dishwashers have model numbers beginning with DU8, DP8, DU9 and GDP, such as DU8700XY-1. Affected Kenmore dishwashers have model numbers beginning with 665, such as 665.1665591. In addition to model numbers, both Whirlpool and Kenmore have serial numbers ranging from FA2400000 through FA5299999 or from FB0100000 through FB1899999.

Kenmore Elite 665.1747-3300
Dishwasher control electrical panel caught fire in middle of the night, causing fire department to come. As result consumer had a stinky house with a hole in the wall and wiring out of the house.
41 YOM reports that the dishwasher produced a loud electrical popping sound during its normal wash cycle. Smoke and an acrid burning plastic smell were coming from the steam ports. Consumer opened the washer door and shut off the breaker. Circuit board was the cause.

Dishwasher's control board caught fire. Smoke & fumes erupted from top right of dishwasher. Consumer unplugged unit & allowed to cool. Entire house smell of burning electronics. Control board caught fire melting the board, plastic around & above it, and frying all the wires.
Consumer stated that around 4pm she put the dishwasher on a 6 hour delay. Around 10pm she heard a pop sound and found smoke was coming out of the front of the dishwasher. She lifted the handle to stop the dishwasher but it continued to spin.
Consumer stated that the dishwasher control panel has started to burn. This happened while the dishwasher was not in use. All of the components behind the buttons are burnt and the plastic housing around the control paneled has started to melt.
