LG Electronics and Sears Recall Gas Dryers For Repair Due to Fire Hazard

Consumer smelled a burning smell after starting a load of clothes in the gas clothes dryer. Consumer took back panel off unit & found a large lint buildup in the base of the dryer that had caught fire. Lint buildup appears to be excess lint that the trap was unable to capture
When a 41 YOM used the dryer to dry his clothes, his wife smelled burning plastic. When they unplugged the power cord for the dryer, the power cord & the power outlet had already melted badly. On the power cord, 1 of the 3 prongs had burned to a black color.
Consumer smelled gas leak & found that it was at one of steam dryer valves. Valve was replaced, but 3 months later gas smelled again. Valve has already burned out. Consumer believes that defect in control board is causing valves to burn out.
LG DLG 2526W
Consumer's gas dryer heats up as required, gas shuts off as temperature is reached, the gas valve turns itself back on without the ignitor pumping raw natural gas into dryer. Dealer has replaced gas valve twice and unit continues to malfunction.
Consumer stated that he had put a load of clothes in the dryer and approx. 10-15 mins later he started smelling something burning. He noticed that the dryer was overheating. He powered it off and found that the clothes were burnt and the wall behind the unit had scorch marks.
Consumer reports that their gas clothes dryer started to leak gas into their home when it was not in use. Consumer reports that the valve assembly had failed and had to be replaced.
Consumer noticed that clothes dryer began being much hotter than necessary. It is running at temperature high enough to have at times burned her clothing & has blackened vent in back of dryer. She stated that clothes are too hot no matter what setting she uses.

Consumer reports that the gas dryer while operating pumps raw, non-ignited natural gas into the machine and the room. A tech told that after the igniter has turned off after heating the gas, the gas valve is opening and raw gas is pumped into the drum and out the exhaust hose
Shortly after delivery of gas dryer, consumer noticed smell of gas from unit, only present while running. Gas detection monitor showed no leaks in lines. Consumer determined that gas control valve was opening after heating sequence was complete, venting gas.
Consumer reports that gas dryer overheats & scorches her clothes . Technician made repars, but incident re-occurred. She experiences similar problem to recalled dryers where gas valve can fail to shut off, continuing to heat after drying cycle is complete.
Consumer stated that the dryer was on the permanent press cycle for about 36 minutes and when she attempted to take the clothes out of the dryer, they were too hot to touch. She could smell that they were scorched and not wearable. Had noticed this on cotton materials before.
Consumer says they smelled gas while using their gas dryer. The gas company confirmed their lines were fine, but they detected gas when the dryer was on in the laundry room and from the dryer vent.
consumer reports that when gas dryer alarm went off 40 YOF opened dryer door to the smell of warm natural gas. Igniter stopped working, but gas continued to enter the dyer chamber.
Consumers' gas dryer burst into flames in their home. Consumers lost $1,000-dryer and $200 of clothing in the fire. Fire department identified faulty switch as the cause of the fire, but the manufacturer contends that the cause was the build up of the lint.
25 yom stated that that while cleaning his clothes dryer's lint catcher area his hand was inside the dryer when something sharp cut him. He pulled lint catcher out, unscrewed bolts then placed his hand inside to pull out objects & cut his right hand & arm.
The gas valve in the gas dryer failed to shut off properly, continuing to heat gas dryer & its contents after the drying cycle is complete. High temperatures inside & on exterior surface of dryer scorched the drum, as well as damaged the dryer contents. Fire hazard.
Dryer's lint trap does not prevent lint from bypassing due to ill fit either from filter itself, housing, or both. This results in excessive buildup of lint in unit, vent stack & poses a fire hazard & adversely affect the gas supply. Also it snags clothes & destroys them.
Consumer reports that the gas valve in their clothes dryer did not shut off after drying a load and would not shut off after opening the door and even unplugging the unit, until the main gas line was shut off. It burned holes in the clothes and the exterior was scalding hot.

54 YOF reports that dryer caught on fire in the drum with sheets in there. 54 YOF was injured with no first aid or medical attention received.
Consumer reported about electric clothes dryer. While removing clothes from the dryer, 37 yom got cut on a sharp piece of metal. After doctoring himself, he removed the other clothes & noticed a big gaping hole in the bottom of the drum with a sharp edge.
Consumer stated that the dryer drum lost the protective cloth that protected it from rubbing against other metal parts in the area. The rubbing/thumping in the dryer eventually wore the edge of the drum away producing sharp shards of metal that could hurt when putting hand in

Consumer reported that the gas dryer does not heat but continues to pump raw natural gas to outside vent and inside the laundry room. Consumer also reported that clothes remain wet after the dry cycle completed and very strong natural gas odor.
LG Tromm DLG5966
Smelled burning by the dryer. Upon inspection found vent lines clean but the bottom of the dryer under the drum by where the gas burner is lint had built up and the top of the lint had caught on fire.
Consumer reported gas smell coming from gas clothes dryer vent when dryer is running. Problem was caused by opening gas valve with no ignition source, which is igniter coil. The gas just enters tub drum & then exits through vent. The issue was caused by a faulty control board
42 YOM reported that gas dryer had significant gas smell when operating as well as couple incidents of clothes scorching inside unit. They had repair man diagnose & fix dryer, & issue was d/t faulty gas valve not regulating/closing when it was supposed to.
I purchased a washer, dryer & stacking kit. The 'kit' that is designed to prevent the dryer from falling off of the washer that there was nothing stopping the dryer from vibrating off of the washer because the stacking kit was either too long or installation was incorrect.
Several years ago consumer put load of clothes in dryer & turned it on. It wouldn't come on immediately & there was strong odor of gas. He waited & dryer finally ignited. Igniter was replaced. He stated that problem still continued & recently incident happened again.
Gas dryer dries clothes, but produces strong smell of natural gas. After unit completes first drying cycle, which lasts about 1 minute, control unit turns gas valve back on. It does this while igniter is off, therefore, gas never ignites again & leaks into chamber & vent.
46 YOM reported that after three attempts by manufacturer to repair issue, gas dryer's valve was stuck open and clothes dryer overheated. He was 10 feet from dryer, & it smelled like combination of electric fire with clothes burning. He stated that unit never worked properly.
Gas dryer is having internal gas leak. Similar dryer to consumer's unit was recalled from faulty gas valve, but his model was not included in recall.
The consumer reported that the clothes dryer has a gas valve leak. She stated that there are some models of thsi brand that are being recalled for this same issue, but currently this model number isn't, but should be.
I started smelling a strong smell of raw gas during the gas dryer operation. I searched the internet & found a lot of people having the same dangerous issue. The control panel will tell the gas valve to open without the igniter being on therefore pumping gas into the dryer.
This gas dryer allows the gas to come on when the igniter is not on, venting raw gas into the drum, and out through the exhaust. The machine will heat up, but then, when it cycles on and off, sometimes it just vents raw gas into the drum and out into the yard.
A 52 YOM attempted to open the dryer door for an electric dryer after the drum had stopped rotating. He received a shock from the door. There is a short circuit in the dryer door locking mechanism. With the dryer plugged in & the door closed 120VAC circulating through door.
A female noticed a gas smell/odor emitting from the dryer after drying clothes. Gas company inspected the dryer & gas lines & found something wrong with the dryer & tagged it as a safety/fire hazard. Manufacturer is unwilling to resolve the problem.
When flame on gas dryer goes out or fails to ignite, gas valves do not close, & gas continues to be pumped into fire tube even though there is no flame. This continues for duration of dryer cycle. 34 YOM was injured and received no first aid or medical attention.
Consumer's wife went into the laundry room to see an orange glow coming from under out dryer. She also saw & smelled smoke in the room. She unplugged dryer, turned off gas & opened dryer door. The fire extinguished on its own when she did this.
I smelled gas near clothes dryer. I researched online & found videos proving this dangerous defect. I immediately disassembled my dryer & confirmed that this was exactly happening in my case as well. The drier drum & exhaust are filled with natural gas between heat cycles.
Smell of gas inside dryer. Appliance forum has other reports of this gas dryer leaking gas due to faulty gas controllers.
35 YOM reports that the gas dryer was in use when the consumer smelled gas. It was coming from the front bottom right area of the unit, where the gas ignition valve was located. The seems to open but not ignite during the drying process. Safety hazard.
Consumer reported that while dryer was in use smell of gas was overwhelming. Gas company checked & didn't find gas leak. Repairman informed consumer that it was from dryer.
After drying clothes, consumer's dryer caught on fire. Consumer noticed burning smell at end of cycle. Shortly after, smoke came into drum and from behind unit. FD responded. Remains of small booklet in a plastic bag on gas line started fire.
Consumer's gas dryer is leaking gas smell. The smell comes out from the vent and is also very strong when consumer opens door during cycle. This is a safety hazard.
The consumer stated that the gas clothes dryer during routine operation burst on fire, severely damaging unit and clothes, and created extreme risk of house fire. A tech determined it was due to electrical short involving wires connecting the control console to the gas burner
Consumer indicates that there is a light on a dryer that indicates when the filter is dirty & must be cleaned. The consumer cleaned the filter out however he noticed an unusual amount of lint outside his home. Technician inspected the unit & noticed that a fire underneath it.
The consumer stated that her 3 year old clothes dryer started smelling of gas. The consumer called the manufacturer and was told they couldn't help. She then called the gas company and they believe it's an appliance issue.
63 YOM consumer purchased a gas dryer. The gas valve began emitting raw, un-burned natural gas into dryer drum. Problem was likely the control board which would prevent the igniter from lighting the gas after first heating cycle. Consumer feels this is a safety hazard.
The consumer stated that the lint filter on her clothes dryer is defective and a safety hazard. When she runs the dryer, clothes get caught and twisted around the lint filter. She tried replacing the lint filter with a new one and the same issue is occurring.
Electric dryer was drying cloths when 49 YOF heard loud sound. She found dryer 'dancing' across floor. It had burning smell. She stopped it. Dryer wasn't repaired when she turned unit on & started to dry clothes. After 20 minutes same incident happened again.
The consumer stated that only during operation, there is a strong un-burned gas smell emanating from his gas clothes dryer into the house and also outside through exhaust vent. The consumer stated that he found numerous online complaints about this problem.
39 YOM reported that his gas dryer keeps leaking gas. He stated that the manufacturer is in denial despite that there is a lot of reports of problems with their dryers leaking gas.
The consumer stated that the clothes dryer was off and she was leaning into it remove clothing when it started spinning with the door was open. The consumer reported injury to self.
53 YOM reported that while drying laundry, they started noticing strong gas odor coming from gas clothes dryer. He indicated that gas could build up inside dryer, get ignited & explode during next cycle or when light is turned on in laundry room.
Gas clothes dryer started emitting strong gas odor & service rep was sent out to fix problem. While dryer was disassembled was noticed that gas valve that should have been replaced under recall, never was replaced, even though company sent out rep who claimed to replaced it.
The consumer stated that this is the second incident with their [gas clothes] dryer in the last 6 months. The consumer stated that the manufacturer had a technician come out and fix the problem, but it's back again and the consumer is smelling gas from the dryer.

Consumer put load of laundry in dryer & forgo about it. At least 3 hours later dryer was still running. Display was off but drum was spinning & drying. Consumer opened door & dryer stopped, when door was closed unit turned on again. Consumer had to unplug dryer to stop it.
Consumer noticed a smell like gas in laundry room & called gas company to check. They checked & found that it was Gas Dryer. Consumer indicated that when dryer is in use clothes are extremely hot and the gas smell is pretty strong.
Gas clothes dryer may have been in use for 5 to 10 minutes, when it caught fire. Flames were coming from its right side, between stand & drum. Consumer used fire extinguisher to put out flames. She called FD. Fire caused burn damage to floor & wall near unit.
42 YOF consumer's electric clothes dryer has a filter which begins to burn against the metal of the dryer. Filter was replaced but problem persisted. Consumer believes this is a fire hazard.
This was a new product [clothes dryer]; awesome look; but the item; was subpar; and it caught fire
Consumer reports that the dryer drum continues to rotate when the door is open. They also report that sensor drying isn't working properly. There is a safety issue if the unit continues to operate on its own when the door is open. It should stop automatically.
37 YOM consumer reports that the gas dryer is leaking raw natural gas into the home. The dryer is malfunctioning because it's turning on the gas before the ignitor is hot. This is a dangerous defet and a health hazard as consumers are exposed to and breathing in fumes.
45 YOF noticed smoke few minutes after turning drier on & discovered, that there was fire. There was lint in front right corner of cabinet & around heating element & these parts are inaccessible for owner to maintain. 43 YO spouse, 11YO, 12 YO & 14 YO children were involved.

Male consumer reports that the dryer caught on fire without there being any visible flames. He smelled a burning odor and upon further inspection he removed the faceplate and discovered that the wires inside had melted and damaged parts were also noted. Fire hazard.
Consumer reports that the dryer's dry sensor is not working properly. The dryer does not heat up and there would be a build up of lint. The dryer would make noises and a burning smell while in use. Part of the lint trap was melted. It was fixed but the issue occurred again.
After two weeks of use the electric dryer, the bottom screw came out of door handle. 61 YOF is concerned, that the door of dryer will fall off, it already fell once onto her foot.
Consumer noticed an issue with the filter of dryer, when dried clothes removed from the dryer were torn. He checked the dryer and found that the filter was broken and clothes were getting caught in it. Also, lint is getting pass the filter which is, potentially, a fire hazard
New dryer stopped with error code F1 while 2nd load was drying. It means temp inside drum has risen suddenly & to call for service. 68 YOM stated, that while technician was running machine through various cycles, it set off all smoke alarms in house. 62 YOF was also involved.
