Bosch and Siemens Model Dishwashers Recalled by BSH Home Appliances Corporation Due to Fire Hazard

An electrical component in certain model dishwashers can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. BSH Home Appliances has received 51 reports of incidents, including 30 reports of fires resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported. This recall involves certain Bosch and Siemens dishwashers manufactured from May 1999 through July 2005.

  • Date: 7/16/2020

Dishwasher started to billow smoke from front door during normal wash cycle. Upon inspection of electrical wiring was noted control board failed & blew hole through plastic package. Consumer stated that fire started because of shorted motor relay.

Consumer reports the dishwasher smelled of something burning and found that the water would not drain out. Consumer says called two times over the phone to see if there was a recall on it and both times the operators said "no", but found later that it had been recalled.

While dishwasher was in use for nearly hour, consumer's husband started smell burning smell. Smoke alarm went off. He found that unit was smoldering. Its control panel burned up. Kitchen cabinets have smoke damage. No one was harmed or injured.

Consumer's dishwasher caught on fire. FD found smoke throughout the residence & smoke coming from the dishwasher door & some burning plastic at the base of the dishwasher. No one reported any injuries but the smoke detector did not alert the occupants.

Consumer reported that a solder joint burned up on dishwasher. Consumer stated that the control board got hot enough to melt the solder joint that the heater relay connects to.
